Prof. Mrs. Olayinka Taiwo Asekun is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Lagos. She has spent the last 33 years teaching chemistry and contributing to research in her Areas of specialisation which focus on Natural Products Research, Essential Oil Research, Bioactive Organic Compound Synthesis, Isolation and Characterisation of Bioactive Compounds, Pharmacological Evaluation of Nigerian Medicinal and Economic Plants. She spent 12 years at Lagos State University and has spent 22 years at the University of Lagos. She has 61 articles in reputable Local and International journals and has attended over 49 International Conferences and Workshops. She was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Fort Hare, Alice, Eastern Cape, South Africa, in 2005. and a Research Fellow at the University of Soochow, Jiangsu, China, in 2012. She is a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN), the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON), and a Distinguished Fellow and Vice-President of the Institute of Security (DFISN). She is also a member of the Institute of Public Analyst (MIPAN), Society of Medicinal Plants for Economic Development (MSOMPED), Society of Essential Oils Distillers and Analysts, Nigeria (SEODA) and the Society of Cosmetic Scientists Nigeria (NICOS), aside from academics and research. She was Head of the Chemistry Department twice, and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Lagos, a former Board Member of the University of Lagos Staff School, and the Academic Planning Committee of the University of Lagos. She also belongs to and chairs numerous committees within and outside the University.
