Personal Statement:

J.B.Minari is a Professor of Cell Physiology and Molecular Biology in the department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos with specialization in molecular biology and genome editing of cancer and viral infectious diseases. As PI and Co-investigator of both University and other grant-warding organizations, I have screened, characterized, studied and research into discovery of potential antitumor and antiviral compound and their possible target. This will definitely help to discover and validate natural product which is readily available, cheap and effective for breast cancer therapy and infectious diseases.  I have taught and supervised research work on enzymology, molecular biology and genome editing at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am currently using CRISPR technology in enhancing treatment of cancer of exiting drugs and natural product. The team of Cancer and Genome Editing Research Group in the department of Cell Biology and Genetics which I lead also organizes hands-on training on CRISPR technology in resolving real life problems in Africa.

Ongoing and completed research work that I will like to highlight:

  1. University of Lagos CRC grant CRC NO. 2018/12  Minari (PI) Genetic expression of p21 and CDK1 protein in MCF7 cell line and MNU-induced breast cancer treated with Olax Subscorpioidea and Newboidia leaves.
  2. UK GCFR_NF98 EWS COVID -19 GRANT Co-investigator, Building an Early Warning System for community-wide infectious disease spread: SARSCoV-2 tracking in Africa via environment fingerprinting.
  3. Lasric grant 2020. Co-investigator, Immuno-informatics Design of an Epitope Peptide Based Vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 Spike Glycoprotein.
  4. Tetfund Grant – TETF/DR&D/CE/NRF2020/SETI/39/VOL 1 Minari (PI) Candidate Blockers Identification For RNA Dependent RNA Polymerase As Potential Drugs For Covid-19.
  5. Minari (PI) CRISPR-Cas 9 assisted Anti-cancer property of curcumin and Resveratrol as Potential Drug candidate for Breast Cancer
