Personal Statement
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, University of Lagos. My research interests are in the area of Plant Molecular Genetics, Biodiversity Conservation, Cytogenetics and Genetic toxicology. My research focus is on fingerprinting, genetic diversity, crop breeding, characterization and gene expression study, using DNA-based molecular markers. This is with a view of exploring their genetic base to improve their productivity for food security and poverty alleviation among the rural dwellers, which is targeted at achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2. I have worked extensively on the exploration, molecular characterization, genetic diversity and phylogeny of African eggplants, some indigenous edible fruit trees (IEFT) e.g. Spondias, Chrysophyllum, Artocarpus, etc., as well as Coconut plant. My ultimate mission is to bring my research into useful products that benefit my immediate community and the larger society, mentoring and training minds in addressing challenges faced by Nigerians and Africans especially in food security, unemployment and poverty alleviation through interdisciplinary and collaborative, approaches
