Personal Statement
I am Dr. Olanike Maria Buraimoh, an Associate Professor with a PhD in microbiology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, where I currently serve as a senior academic and researcher. I am a passionate advocate for microbial solutions to environmental, climate, and public health challenges. I bring over a decade of cross-disciplinary experience in environmental biotechnology, with a strong focus on bioremediation, air quality and antimicrobial resistance monitoring in the environment, and the bioconversion of organic wastes into sustainable eco-friendly products of industrial importance. My academic journey is complemented by leadership and innovation. I contribute to bridging academia and industry, driving innovation and commercialization of research outputs. Internationally, I serve as a Global Ambassador for Applied Microbiology International (AMI, UK), I have collaborated with research teams at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany and Ohio State University in the United States, experiences that have strengthened my interdisciplinary and multicultural research approach. Beyond research, I am a trained educator, speaker, and administrator, with competencies in quality control, and mentorship. I am also an alumna of several prestigious capacity-building programs, including the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (UNIDO), the Research Management and Leadership Program, and the University Administration Support Program (CEU-IREX-UASP, USA)., I am a proud member of Applied Microbiology International, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and the Nigeria Society for Microbiology (NSM). With a strong track record in both scientific research and institutional leadership, I am committed to using innovative microbiological approaches to address global sustainability challenges.
