  1. Personal Statement

 

My research effort focuses on the production of engineered nanostructures thereby exploiting their unique properties in several areas of applications. For example, bioactive glasses which can stimulate bone regeneration and tooth remineralisation from water glass or locally sourced precursor clay and sand. Also carbon quantum dots (C-dots) and metal nanoparticles (NPs) e.g. silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as versatile nano-carriers for potential drug delivery. We achieved the first synthesis of Boron-10 enriched pentaborane (9), 10B5H9 and 10B18H22 as potential payload for 10B atoms in Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) cancer treatment. We are currently investigating multiplexed paper sensors for disease diagnostics, ore beneficiation in alternative energy systems, solgel chemistry of silica to obtain composites as alternatives for low weight structural applications and lipid nanoformulations for enhanced drug delivery systems.
