Personal Statement
I am a Professor of Chemistry with over four decades of expertise in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, specializing in pollution monitoring, remediation, and environmental toxicology. My research has focused on developing innovative methods for detecting and quantifying pollutants, significantly advancing the understanding of the bioaccessibility and environmental behavior of toxic metals and organic contaminants in Nigeria’s aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Over the years, I have been the recipient of several research grants from institutions such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, TETFUND, West Africa Geo-Health Program, and Sandia National Laboratories, USA. These projects have supported cutting-edge work on e-waste contamination, eutrophication, and chemical safety education. In addition to my scientific contributions, I led a national initiative to develop a comprehensive chemical security and safety curriculum for tertiary institutions. This effort culminated in the publication of two educational resources—an instructor’s guide with solutions and a student workbook—and a nationwide “train-the-trainer” program to build capacity in safe chemical practices. My interdisciplinary background and proven leadership in environmental health research position me to make meaningful contributions to projects focused on environmental assessment, risk evaluation, chemical safety, and sustainable remediation.
